Ubisoft's sandboxes usually take a long time to beat, so those who are considering leaping into the galaxy blaster-first are probably expecting a lot of gameplay. If you're curious to know, we've listed all the potential lengths for Star Wars Outlaws below, including the length of the main campaign, how much side content you can expect to find, and even playtimes for those who are out to reach 100% completion based off of our time with game for the GamesRadar+ Star Wars Outlaws review.

How long to beat Star Wars Outlaws?

Having played through Star Wars Outlaws, we can confidently lay out the following guidelines on how long it takes to beat it, with different lengths in hours depending on the kind of playthrough you're out to do.

 • 18 hours for story campaign (just essential missions)
 • 25 hours for standard playthrough (story + some side content)
 • 40 hours for 100% completion (all content)

Obviously these are estimates that will vary depending on player skill and familiarity with the game, as well as what kind of difficulty you want to play Kay Vess's story on.

Of course, the big factor in these numbers is how much side content a player wants to experience. As mentioned, Ubisoft sandboxes have a reputation for being stuffed with optional content, and Outlaws is no exception. It's also a game that's got some challenge to it and might be a little harder than some people expect, so while doing side content isn't exactly mandatory, side quests like unlocking all the Star Wars Outlaws Experts and Abilities are going to help you progress and smooth out the experience of the main story.

How to unlock new abilities in Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws Experts and Abilities

Unlocking new abilities in Star Wars Outlaws is done in the following sequence of gameplay events:

 1. Progress through the game until you obtain "Expert Intel".
 2. This Intel directs you towards an optional chain of side quests to be completed.
 3. When completed, these side quests unlock a new Expert in your Abilities menu.
 4. Experts give you one free ability for unlocking them.
 5. There are then five more abilities and skills that you can earn through specific challenges, which you can check in the Abilities menu.

It is worth mentioning that some abilities do require others to be unlocked, even from different Experts' skill trees. For example, the Mechanic will unlock a smoke bomb, which the Slicer can then upgrade into a Concussive Smoke Bomb that staggers enemies. Of course, if you want to understand how best to apply these powers, our Star Wars Outlaws tips can help.

Where to find all Experts' locations in Star Wars Outlaws

Below we've listed all nine of the Star Wars Outlaws Experts' locations - or rather, how to unlock the initial Expert Intel that directs you to the quest chain that will then unlock them and their ability trees. We've also included every ability they teach you, so you can read below and see what they have to offer and whether you want to prioritize them.

Yes, there's a Jawa Expert out there too. Starting with adding a turret to your ship, Teeka then provides a disparate range of eclectic abilities.

 • Location: After a main story mission on Tatooine where Kay is temporarily forbidden to use her ship, ND-5 suggests that this might be a good time to upgrade it, and gives the "Buying a Turret" intel. This begins Teeka's quest chain in Scavenger's Draw, in North West Mos Eisley on Tatooine.

Best abilities and Experts in Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws Experts and Abilities

With 54 different abilities and skills in Star Wars Outlaws, it's hard to know where to begin as a priority. However, we'd say the best Expert to unlock first is Aila Bren the Slicer, as her default Slicer upgrade is essential to making that hacking minigame more fair and useful.

If you want to know some general abilities to pick out and prioritise across the board though, here's ones you should go for that we found generally useful across the board:

 • I Know Someone (The Bartender)
 • Lightfooted (The Slicer)
 • Electro-Shock Prod (The Scavenger)
 • Assisted Scavenging (The Scavenger)
 • Can I Try That? (The Mercenary Default)
 • Plan B (The High Roller Default)
 • Just Improvise (The High Roller)

<![CDATA[ Best faction in Star Wars Outlaws to build a reputation with ]]> Your Reputation with the Star Wars Outlaws factions is an essential part of the way you play the game, with the relationships you build in the criminal underworld having a significant impact on rewards and more. You might be welcomed into a syndicate’s territory, get access to unique rewards and equipment, and offered the best jobs around. Alternatively, they might spit on you, charge you through the nose for basic gear, or just open fire if you walk too close. Your reputation is key in Star Wars Outlaws, but so often building favor with one faction means losing face with another, as all the syndicates are at each other's throats. If you want to know which faction in Star Wars Outlaws is best to build a reputation with, as well as some good reputation building tips, we can help below.

What is the best Faction in Star Wars Outlaws to have a high reputation with?

The Star Wars Outlaws factions in Kay's criminal network

Of the main Star Wars Outlaws factions you can focus your Reputation-building on, none are inherently better than others - it's more a case of what you want to prioritise - but if you have to pick one, we'd say it's either the Hutt Cartel, or the Ashiga Clan, the fourth faction that opens up when you reach Kijimi for the first time.

The Hutts have a lot of good merchants and dominate Tatooine, which is probably one of the slightly tougher worlds, so having them on your side there is helpful. Meanwhile, the Ashiga have a smaller presence across the game as a whole, but their rewards for high reputation are very good, with equipment that reduces damage, increases durability, and generally makes you a powerhouse in open combat.

All Factions in Star Wars Outlaws

All benefits in Star Wars Outlaws for having a good reputation with the Pyke Syndicate faction

There are four main factions in Star Wars Outlaws that you can affect with your reputation (not including factions you can't appeal to, like the Empire or Rebel Alliance), each one of which has a niche that tends to determine the kind of stock their merchants sell, as well as the kind of jobs and contracts you can get from them.

 • The Pyke Syndicate: Smugglers and black marketeers, the Pyke Syndicate has a strong emphasis on starships and advanced weaponry.
 • The Crimson Dawn: Assassins, extortionists, thieves and manipulators, the Crimson Dawn focuses on stealth and behind-the-scenes control.
 • The Hutt Cartel: Enforcers, brutes and mercenaries, the Hutts rely on physical force and aggression.
 • The Ashiga Clan: Territorial and only unlocked when you first reach Kijimi, the Ashiga use melee combat and fear to hold ground.

How to build reputation in Star Wars Outlaws

A merchant in Star Wars Outlaws holds back stock because of the player's faction reputation with Crimson Dawn

Reputation in Star Wars Outlaws can be earned in a bunch of different ways, but the best one is Contracts: these side missions tend to build a solid rapport with whichever faction you're doing the contract for. Contracts usually end in a choice where you can betray the quest-giver for some extra credits, but if you don't then you'll likely make a good, clean profit on their opinion for you.

Meanwhile, here are some other recommendations for how to build reputation:

 • Give Data to Faction smugglers: You can find Data throughout the game that serves as a valuable resource. Giving it to a smuggler aligned with a specific faction boosts your Reputation, and certain Data is really appreciated based on the contextual habits of that syndicate - for example, the Pykes love information about Starships, and Crimson Dawn like blackmail material.
 • Don't get caught: Sooner or later you'll have to go up against all of these factions , but assuming you never break stealth, they'll never know you were there. It's only when you start firing or get spotted that your reputation drops.
 • Keep an eye out for random events: Whether in space or on the ground, you'll occasionally get markers for conflicts happening nearby. These are your chances to intervene and help whoever's in trouble - though it can mean upsetting others.
 • Accept that you can't please everyone: Ultimately, while it is possible to make multiple factions like you, it's really tough. Because they're all effectively at war, helping one will mean upsetting somebody else. Acknowledge that having everybody be your friend at once is probably not going to be an option unless you're willing to really knuckle down and do a lot of contracts while never breaking stealth.

<![CDATA[ Which planet should you go to first in Star Wars Outlaws? ]]> Which planet in Star Wars Outlaws should you go to first when Hyperspace becomes available? Once you unlock the ability to jump between worlds with your ship in Star Wars Outlaws and leave Toshara behind, you're given the choice of three planets: Kimiji, Akiva and Tatooine, but which of those should you choose? I'd say that there is a best option, and I'll lay it out for you below in our guide to picking the best world to go to first in Star Wars Outlaws.

The best planet to go to first in Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws

When given the choice of which planet to go to first in Star Wars Outlaws, ND-5 suggests gently that you go to Akiva - and he's probably right. Ultimately it's not a hugely important choice, as there's nothing stopping you from going to all of them in rapid succession and it doesn't change anything in the story, but if you want to pick a planet to focus on first, there's a solid case for it being Akiva.

There's a few reasons for this: without spoiling anything, Akiva has a range of upgrades and is home to some of the Star Wars Outlaws Experts and Abilities that don't just enhance what you can do, they actively grant new ways to explore and traverse the galaxy. Akiva's also a little easier as Star Wars Outlaws planets go than somewhere like Tatooine, as it has a wealth of resources and merchants, and - without spoiling - the story that takes place there feels more appropriate at the beginning of your journey than at the end

Still, it's your choice, and there's nothing stopping you from playing on Akiva for a bit before leaping back into the Trailblazer and flying off somewhere else to see what new worlds have to offer. And if you want some help preparing for these ruthless worlds, our Star Wars Outlaws tips can help you.

<![CDATA[ Should you choose Eleera or Gorak in Star Wars Outlaws to give information to? ]]> The Star Wars Outlaws Eleera or Gorak choice is one of the first big decisions that players have to make in the main campaign, after it's revealed that Tizlak, a Pyke traitor, is secretly working for Governor Thorden. Star Wars Outlaws is actually using this to tutorialize a larger concept, but it's worth understanding the consequences of this choice initially, as it comes down to this: do you want to have the good will of the Pyke Syndicate or the Crimson Dawn? We'll cover the consequences of choosing between Gorak or Eleera in Star Wars Outlaws below, as well as what the best choice is.

What's the best choice between Eleera or Gorak in Star Wars Outlaws?

Star Wars Outlaws Eleera or Gorak choice

When choosing in Star Wars Outlaws whether to tell Eleera about the Pyke traitor or save the information for Gorak, there is no best choice: it depends on which of the two criminal organisations you want to build your reputation with, the Pyke Syndicate or the Crimson Dawn. At this initial stage of the game, it's probably a little better to side with Crimson Dawn, as their merchants sell more useful gear in the early game, but it's a very small difference, ultimately speaking.

This is setting up a major gameplay system regarding the various Star Wars Outlaws factions and reputation, where your actions and choices affect how all the different criminal groups perceive you. Each faction has territory and merchants working for them: if you have a good reputation with that faction, you'll be allowed to walk around their territory and get better deals from their merchants, as well as access to exclusive stock.

Fortunately, no matter who you choose between Eleera and Gorak, you'll be able to appeal to the other faction with all sorts of methods later on, laid out in our guide above - there's no consequence here that you can't take back or undo. Of course, that goes both ways - you might lose your good standing with whatever faction you choose.

<![CDATA[ 10 Star Wars Outlaws tips and tricks to becoming the ultimate starfaring rogue ]]> Our Star Wars Outlaws tips and tricks lay out all the advice we wish we'd known before we started playing Kay Vess's odyssey through the underworld of a hundred worlds. Star Wars Outlaws has a surprising amount of teeth to it, with some real challenges and nuances to the way it's played, but we've been scouting ahead, blaster in hand, and come back with all the hard-earned lessons we've brought back from the numerous hives of scum and villainy we found along the way. If you want the top 10 tips for Star Wars Outlaws, we're going through them here.

1. There's nearly always multiple routes into somewhere

Star Wars Outlaws tips

There's many times in Outlaws where you have to break into hideouts, enemy territory, Imperial bases and more besides, such as the early mission where you have to stealth through Pyke District in Star Wars Outlaws. When you do, there's nearly always more than one way in. Maybe it's climbing walls, going through vents, having Nix trigger devices, swinging in with your grappling hook or just going in blasting, but if one way in is proving difficult, you're almost guaranteed to find an alternative if you keep your eyes peeled.

2. Stealing is free and easy, and even viable in combat

Star Wars Outlaws tips

One of Nix's primary abilities is to steal things from certain NPCs when you complete a little timed button press. It's incredibly easy to do, and often very helpful. In towns it's a constant source of Credits, earning money along the way, and in combat and stealth, you can use it to get Grenades, weapons and Bacta Vials from enemies. Kay is a thief at heart - so make the most of it.

3. In combat and stealth, find somewhere high up

Star Wars Outlaws tips

When in doubt, finding a rooftop, high ledge or wall is a smart move. Outlaws doesn't emphasise it much, but having a height advantage makes it harder for enemies to shoot you if they're aggressive, and gives you an eagle-eye view of the terrain and nearby foes when you're in stealth.

4. You only upset factions if they catch you being bad

Star Wars Outlaws tips

If the Crimson Dawn are paying you to steal something from the Hutts, then obviously you might be a bit uncertain about having Jabba mad at you as a result - but he doesn't have to be. Part of the Star Wars Outlaws factions and reputation system means that loss of reputation only happens if they see you. Shooting and killing an enemy means you'll upset their faction, but if you can do the whole thing from stealth and using takedowns without ever alerting any NPCs, you'll be OK.

5. When combat begins, set Nix loose

Star Wars Outlaws tips

It's easy to forget, but Nix is really helpful in combat, even beyond the theft mentioned above. Having him attack an enemy effectively stops them from doing anything, giving you a great chance to deal with them, and later upgrades even let you send him to trigger the grenades on the enemies' belts to blow them up. You can do this automatically when you're in combat by holding down the Nix button, then following the Protect Kay button prompt.

6. Don't try to please everybody - it's easier early on to pick some factions that you like…

Star Wars Outlaws tips

While it is possible to appeal to all the criminal factions in Star Wars Outlaws, it's very difficult to have them all like you at once, and involves a lot of skill and investment in side content to reach that point. It gets even harder when many campaign story missions will unavoidably put you in conflict with these factions - so instead, focus on making friends with one or two. You can always invest in others later, but better to at least have some allies rather than trying to please everyone to no success.

Star Wars Outlaws tips

All the factions do Contracts, special side quests that you can find via the various contract brokers around the galaxy. These are absolutely the best way to get into their good books - they come with significant reputation and credit rewards, and while there's usually a choice to betray them for more cash at the end of each quest, the important thing is that this doesn't usually upset another faction if you turn it down.

8. Fast Talk is a great way to deal with being spotted, but you'll need Adrenaline to handle groups seeing you

Star Wars Outlaws tips

The Star Wars Outlaws Fast Talk ability you can unlock early on is your safety net for enemies spotting you in stealth, confusing them momentarily so you can grab your blaster or a smoke bomb. If you're caught by a group though, you can still pacify them collectively with the upgraded Fast Talk - but dealing with them is a lot harder. If that happens and you're talking them all down, that's the best moment to trigger the bullet-time Adrenaline Rush and take them all out in one go.

9. You don't have to fly to fast travel between worlds

Star Wars Outlaws tips

After you're done deciding which planet to go to first in Star Wars Outlaws, you'll start unlocking fast travel points on different planets. Outlaws doesn't tell you this, but you don't have to be on that world to fast travel to it - sure, you can go back to your ship and fly there manually, but just open your map and pick the unlocked fast travel point to get there instantly. It's a little quality-of-life element that vastly speeds up your exploration and intergalactic commute.

10. Regularly check your ship for free rewards!

Star Wars Outlaws tips

Once the Trailblazer is fixed and active, you should go back to it frequently, even if you're not planning on flying it anywhere. Rewards from factions that like you will be in the delivery box in the back, and at key moments in the story Kay's beneficiaries and teammates will leave other items and loot around the ship for you to find and use.

<![CDATA[ How to use Fast Talk in Star Wars Outlaws ]]> The Star Wars Outlaws Fast Talk ability is a tricky one for players to get used to, as the actual function of Fast Talk (as well as how to use it) is a little unclear even after you earn it from the Expert Bram. Fast Talk is actually pretty useful, though perhaps a little poorly named. Rather than actively talking a situation down and having enemies wave you past, like in the Star Wars Outlaws Bluff or Bribe the Bouncer choice, it's used to buy yourself a moment's extra time before enemies go aggressive. If you want some help on mastering the Fast Talk ability in Star Wars Outlaws, here's what you need to know.

How to use Fast Talk in Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Outlaws Fast Talk

Fast Talk in Star Wars Outlaws is earned by completing the challenges from Bram, one of the Star Wars Outlaws Experts, and is used in gameplay in the following way:

 1. When Kay Vess is in a restricted area and in stealth, enemies will be looking for her.
 2. When an enemy sees her, there'll be a momentary gap where they go from Alerted (Orange) to Aggressive (Red).
 3. At this moment, if you're looking at the enemy, there'll be a prompt above their head to press R3/RS.
 4. This triggers Fast Talk, keeping them in the Orange alerted state for a couple of extra seconds longer than normal.
 5. You have this window of opportunity to work out a plan and do something before they attack you.
 6. If you take any action, such as try to run or fire, it ends the Fast Talk state immediately.
 7. Fast Talk can't be used in the mandatory "Don't be Caught" stealth sequences where killing enemies is not allowed.

This raises the obvious question: what do you do with this in Star Wars Outlaws? Well, the main answer is to shoot the person you're Fast Talking. The Stun effect on your Blaster works to stop them without losing stealth, but if you don't have it ready, you just need to hipfire and bring them down. Other options include a Smoke Bomb, if you have that unlocked - or just running for cover.

The Keep Talking upgrade Bram teaches you spreads the effect of Fast Talk to temporarily hold down everybody in the area - which, if it's the case, is a situation that's only really resolved by the Adrenaline Rush power. If you're Fast Talking multiple people, trigger Adrenaline Rush and immediately gun them all down. If you can find them, the Gunslinger Expert will teach you to mark more people in Adrenaline Rush, and the High Roller has an ability called "Just Keep Talking", which grants a massive Adrenaline boost when Fast Talking enemies, setting you up perfectly for a quick-draw killing spree.

<![CDATA[ How the Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking and data spike works ]]> The Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking minigame tasks you with using Kay's Data Spike to match a sequence of beats. Succeed and you can get through sealed doors or into valuable containers, but it can often be a tricky minigame, requiring very precise timing, speed, and rhythm. It doesn’t help that not long into the Star Wars Outlaws, the Data Spike locks get more complex, with faster and longer inputs often needed. If you're struggling with dataspiking in Star Wars Outlaws, I've explained how this minigame works below so you can pick locks in no time.

Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking explained

Data Spike lockpicking puzzles in Star Wars Outlaws are solved by pressing R2/RT in time with a short, looping, rhythmic sequence. Hitting every beat of the sequence in one go opens the lock but missing a beat resets it, so you must re-enter the sequence. Thankfully, there's no limit to the number of attempts you get per lock, so you can keep trying until you succeed, unlike Star Wars Outlaws hacking.

Each lock's sequence is shown via a synchronized flashing light on the lock module, the movement of lock's pin, the sound of the lock mechanism, the red light on the back of Kay's Data Spike, and vibrations if you're using a controller.

The very first lock you'll probably open will just be a relatively slow and regular two-beat sequence, but the difficulty ramps up as you're introduced to sequences that are three or four beats long, faster, and have a more irregular timing. Although there aren't any upgrades or Star Wars Outlaws Experts and Abilities that make dataspiking easier, there are several settings you can adjust if you want to breeze through it:

 • Turn on the visual aid to help you with the timing: You can toggle a user-interface aid that helps you see the beats of the puzzle with a pulsing white ring.
 • Change difficulty settings: Under the Minigames section of the Gameplay settings menu, you can change lockpicking difficulty to easy, which makes the beat timing less strict.
 • Turn it off entirely: Also in the Minigames settings section, you can turn off the lockpicking rhythm challenge entirely. All you need to do is press R2/RT until the lock opens.

Additionally, be aware that NPCs can still spot you while you’re picking locks, so make sure your surroundings are empty before you start data spiking, though you can look around while picking a lock to ensure the coast is still clear.

<![CDATA[ Should you buy the Star Wars Outlaws VIP invite to Gorak's suite? ]]> The Star Wars Outlaws VIP invite to reach Pyke underboss Gorak is a tantalizing offer, but one that's best left alone. With Kay in dire need of credits to pay Waka the mechanic to fix up the crash-landed Trailblazer, heading straight to the top of the local criminal underworld is apparently the best option. However, with no criminal connections, Kay's way in isn't exactly clear, so this VIP invite in Star Wars Outlaws seems like an easy opportunity.

Upon entering Makal's cantina on Toshara, you'll be hailed by a broker asking if you're looking for a way to meet Pyke syndicate underboss Gorak, offering a VIP invite for only 50 credits. Tempting though the offer is, you should not buy the VIP invite to Gorak's suite in Star Wars Outlaws.

The conveniently placed Star Wars Outlaws broker sells you a fake invite, which you'll find out if you speak to the nearby bartender who tells you you've been conned. And while 50 credits isn't much, it's money better kept in your pockets than those of the broker. Instead, you should walk away and go about looking for another way to Gorak's suite to get a job and some credits.

Start by heading to the north side of the bar and enter the side room to the right of the jukebox. In here, you can use your Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking skills to bust open a vent cover, letting you crawl through and up to Gorak's suite, leading to a new job opportunity. This job requires you to sneak through the Pyke District in Mirogana City to grab information for a secret client, which leads you to your first tussle with the various Star Wars Outlaws factions.

<![CDATA[ Should you bluff or bribe the nightclub bouncer in Star Wars Outlaws? ]]> The Star Wars Outlaws bluff or bribe choice sees Kay trying to get past a Club Tarsus bouncer to reach an office with a valuable identicard inside. This is also the first time you get to choose your approach to a situation in Star Wars Outlaws. While your choice doesn't have any lasting effects on the mission, one of the options is clearly better than the other and there's even a secret way to avoid this choice altogether. Below, you'll find everything you need to know about the bluff or bribe choice in the first hour of Star Wars Outlaws.

Star Wars Outlaws bluff or bribe choice explained

Here are all the possible approaches for when you speak to Vrell the bouncer at the beginning of Star Wars Outlaws:

 • Bluff: You can try it immediately, but it won't work on its own. Kay is turned away, so you need to try one of the other approaches.
 • Speak to the bartender, then bluff: Kay tells a convincing lie that gets the bouncer to leave his post, letting you head up to the office.
 • Bribe the bouncer: Kay pays Vrell 100 credits to let her past. This option is locked if you do not have at least 100 credits and there's no way to get more credits inside the club.
 • Get Nix to steal a keycard from the patrolling bouncer: With this keycard from a different bouncer, you can access a storage room up the stairs to the left of the bar. You can then crawl through a vent which leads to the top of the stairs that Vrell is guarding, letting you reach the office without having to even speak to him.

Regardless of your choice, this scenario can't really go wrong for Kay as you always end up near the office, but the best option is to speak to the bartender, then bluff to Vrell. Since the bartender tells Kay about Vrell's hot, new T-85 speeder, Kay tells him that some people outside the club are trying to steal it, which is enough to get him out the way – no credits or stealing required.

Bribing is by far the worst option here as 100 credits is actually quite a lot in the first few hours of Star Wars Outlaws, so it's best not to part with your cash. There's also a very good chance that you don't have enough credits anyway since you must pay Preeban to fix Kay's Data Spike to unlock the Star Wars Outlaws lockpicking ability. Just in case it crossed your mind, it is absolutely not worth reloading a checkpoint to gather more cash for this option.
